Hi, I’m Amy and I’m a psychotherapist.
I work primarily with people experiencing the ongoing effects of trauma. There are so many ways trauma shows up in us as humans: low self-worth, worry, perfectionism, feeling like a failure, irritability, and sleeplessness. It can also effect our body by having us in a constant state of “fight or flight”.
I also work with the ways we try our best to cope with trauma: typically addiction, which includes substances but also can include addictive or chaotic relationship patterns, technology, and work. Habitual ways of relating like people-pleasing or isolating are other typical responses to trauma that can limit the vitality of our lives, making boundaries or connection feel unsafe and disconnecting us from ourselves and others.
In sessions, I support you to identify the conflicts, emotions, memories, and relationship struggles that repeat painful or unconsciously, and we find ways to experience these differently and live more meaningfully. The Buddhist saying ‘no mud, no lotus’ inspires me in this work and in my own life.
I offer a space that is warm, accepting and allowing. And there’s lots of room for humour and silliness too (if that’s your thing).
I am also trained and interested in providing support for people contemplating psychedelic therapy, and I am open to accepting referrals from people who are interested in exploring legal psychedelic therapy.
My work is supported by own own self-care: dancing, friendship, occasionally meditating, poetry, swimming, focusing (ask me about this!), and pottery. I also receive my own therapy and fortnightly supervision.
